The History of Quarantine
The outbreak of yellow fever in the late 1850s was a major embarrassment for quarantine. Dr Stokes and Van Duz were charged with negligence, but they were both acquitted. A network of public health officials began meeting annually to discuss quarantine. The American Public Health Association is still today the nation's leading public health organization.
