Are There Lessons We Can Learn From Past Pandemics?

Are there lessons that we can learn from past pandemics about what works? I mean, obviously europe an, let's say, the 16 hundreds, when the plague is floating around, was was was kind of resource poord and certainly understanding poor. So much depends on how we sort hof characterize this disease. Do we think of it as a problem of too many people travelling while wild life habitat's being invaded? Or do we start conserving wild life habitats? All these things are multifactorial. There's more than one way to deal with epidemics. We don't all have to do it in the same way.
