The housekeeper was really the most powerful female then in the household structures. A typical middle class or upper myddle class could have maybe one to seven servants that would generally live in, but sometimes live outside of the house. These were kind of like many work places, you know. They were these domestic managers that many of the wives, a wealthy woman did,. Or they would outsorce it to their head housekeeper who was e the superintending housekeeper.
