People want to feel like what they're doing is meaningful, and their skills are being valued. I think that you can get that from work that is not fun that does need a ping-pong table. Another example of gamification of the workplaces in Amazon: They have this thing where if you're working at a workstation, there will be a screen in front of you. You just have to play the game that is designed to make you work harder. And supposedly to make it more fun.
