The Three Step Process of Epictetus

The stoics relied very deeply on the providential cosmos for their own psychological well being. Epictetus is telling us to assume that things and events may have a different meaning when they are viewed from the pespective of the cosmos. The rude driver, stripped of the value judgment, can become an opportunity to test our discipline of assent. Bad news from our doctor may provide us with motivation to change an otherwise unhealthy life style.
