The Importance of Menahim's Rule
Zechariah's death fulfilled the word of the Lord in 2 Kings 1030, when he promised Jehu that four of his descendants would reign on the throne because he carried out the destruction of Ahab's family. Menahim also pays the king of Assyria in order to bolster his new kingdom by taxing the wealthiest Israelites. The people of the northern kingdom have lived in constant rebellion before the Lord and been ruled by one evil king after another. Personal power and glory don't lead to a joyful life. It instead leads to anger, grief, pain, and death.
