The Relationship Between Grants and Hedge Funds
In science funding, there's a difference between grants and es. Three centuries ago, prizes were actually more common as way to fund science than grants. But one of the things that a grant giver gets that a prize giver doesn't get is more of a personal connection. And it seems like a lot of relationships, if you have a hands off, distrusting, distant relationship, you can't claim as close a connection.
