Ulysses S Grant lost everything through a Ponzi scheme in 1884. Mark Twain offered to publish and distribute the book with terms greatly in favor of Grant and his family. In today's dollars, that would be somewhere around $12 million. A sales force of over 10,000 people puts together a 37 page playbook on how to sell the book. The personal memoirs of US Grant became the second largest selling book ever in the United States next to the Bible.
