Reading Black Christians Throughout American History, I Think It's So Much Has to Do With the Language of Scripture

I think reading what people did in response to an immediate situation that demanded a lot of them, reading what scripture they went to and what it looked like for them. James Cone has this great book on the spirituals and the blues which is one of my favorites. I really think that the Holy Spirit is so much a part of why people were able to read scripture that way because it's by the power of the Holy Spirit that they feel contemporaneous with us. If you are looking at the context in front of you and you feel like you have the resources of the people of God described in scripture and that feels real to you, that's the work of the Holyspirit.
