The Scouring of Hell

The office of reading for Holy Saturday comes from an ancient Christian homily. Jesus, he enters into hell or shale to free all of the just who have died before. The gates of hell and the gates of heaven were not open yet. Those aren't open until Jesus rises through his victory over the cross.
