The Relationship Between Meta Cognition and Self Awareness
The ability to track uncertainty is our first key building block of self-awareness. It allows us to doubt ourselves in a lot of different aspects of daily life. And then the other building block I talk about is the ability to monitor our actions and to recognize when our actions have gone off course. So there's this general idea that there's all these unconscious building blocks that come together to make a fully fledged human brain. They emerge early in childhood and infancy, but that fully fledged self-awareness is probably probably not possible until adolescence.
