The Dark Prophecy of Oedipus the King
Sophocles' play Oedipus the King is about a dark prophecy made upon the birth of a child. The audience who went to watch the play were thinking about a similar dark prophecy that had been uttered against their city. A war with Sparta they had been told would come. One needn't succumb to the bludgeoning of fate the fortunes of Athens seemed to prove, says Andrew Keen.
