The Role of Arterial Venous Oxygen Delivery in Cardiovascular Disease

A decrease in oxygen delivery will lead to higher oxygen extraction at the peripheral tissues. A lower AVO2 difference is seen when the tissue is not extracting oxygen. And this is going to be seen in mitochondrial paralysis, such as what we see in sepsis or cyanide toxicity. The normal range for your arterial venous difference is about 4 to 6 mLs of oxygen per deciliter of blood.
