Stuff You Missed in History Class

CHAPTER

Susie Eddie Is Art

The statue of Mary Dyer that's in front of the Massachusetts State House is by Quaker sculptor Sylvia Shaw Judson and it was unveiled in 1959. There are at least two identical castings of it, one at the Friends Center in Philadelphia and one at a private Quaker College in Indiana called Erlum College. As a side note, Judson's most famous sculpture is probably Bird Girl, a figure of a girl standing holding two shallow bowls, one in each hand at about shoulder height. And that is Mary Dyer.
