Economic Warfare Is Only 200 Years Old

Economic warfare as we know it today is only a little over 200 years old. The increasingly elaborate economic machines that were coming into being in both countries made very tempting targets. As recently as the Seven Years' War, British investors bought shares in French privateering expeditions. Today we take it for granted that measures like sanctions and blockades are part of warfare.
