I found it really interesting to reread and I'm just recalling from the first time I read the book it was really a fascinating trade this convergence trade that really capitalized on the European monetary union. Victor Hagani was really the architect of that trade but there was also an angle with the accounting in the Eurozone where they were able to effectively disguise or flatter their balance sheet. This kind of thing happened with Greece subsequently when they used swaps with golden sites, so LTCM was like an early case of thatWhere they got some inside information and they were a helpful counterparty to facilitate a political goal which was convergence with Germany.
