Is the US Industrial Prison Project the Tip of the Sphere of the US Incarceration System?

Alabama has one of the highest incarceration rates in the US. It's 938 per 100,000 people according to a prison policy initiative. The state was ahead of the curve with its three strikes law that started in 1978. Prisoners are heavily racialized and represent a sector of the American labor force. There is a deep kind of political historical kind of dialectic at play in this struggle which I find really interesting.
