Is There Many Different Types of Consensus Mechanisms?

There are many different types of consensus mechanisms, and does that affect inner operability? I don't if the proof of work and proof of stake, if those are considered consensus, or maybe those are incentive mechanisms. And so yet, i think just a vast no, every of different softr stacks and consensus proticles people have built is what makes introprability challenging.
