The Divine Comedy of Dante Allegieri
The Divine Comedy was written in the last part of Dante's life after he has been exiled from Florence. The Italian peninsula consisted of city states in the 13th and 14th century. This is the age of papal armies as much as private wealth. And so this exile was very profound for Dante. He did lose his wealth and actually lost touch with his family for quite some time too.
