What Are Number Stations?
Number stations have been around since the First World War. They're meant to send a secret message over the radio to a spy or military unit. The numbers are read out in groups four or five at a time, so the voice is actually spelling out words. A person who receives this message will have to decode it and they will get this message from their decoding work.
