Vincent's Life in the Borenage
In 1880, Vincent decides to pay a visit to Jules Breton, a celebrated artist whom he greatly admires. Without the money to pay for any kind of public transport,. Vincent decides to walk the 85 kilometers to Breton's home. Since having him committed would involve lengthy legal proceedings that would expose the family to unfavorable scrutiny, the idea is abandoned. A progressive model of treatment places patients with host families rather than fully institutionalizing them.
