In this episode of Why Invest? host Luke Hyde-Smith is joined by Gemma Wright, Partner at CVC and a member of its sports, media and entertainment team, to explore the growing role of private equity in sport, entertainment and media.

The conversation explores how investment can help sporting organisations strengthen their commercial capabilities, improve digital content and reach new audiences, while preserving the heritage and loyalty that make sport distinctive. Gemma also discusses the importance of working within existing sporting ecosystems, rather than fragmenting them, and explains how operational expertise can support sustainable, long-term growth.

Looking beyond traditional sport, the discussion considers opportunities across video gaming, live entertainment, music and digital platforms, including the changing media-rights landscape and the growing influence of streaming, data and AI. Gemma also shares her outlook for the sector, highlighting the continued growth of women’s sport and the enduring appeal of live experiences and passionate fan communities.

Private equity can provide more than capital – investors should support its sports partnerships through strategic guidance, board-level challenge and access to experienced operators.
Women’s sport and digital distribution offer significant opportunities – Rising participation and audience interest are creating momentum across women’s sport, while streaming, social media, direct-to-consumer channels and AI are changing how content reaches fans.
