The Social Determinants of Health

The idea that social conditions are primarily responsible for population health is very old. The World Health Organization, at the conclusion of World War II, was moving in the direction of addressing the social determinants of health. But unfortunately, I feel like the political economy of the world was moving in a direction that was not amenable to that. A lot of the interventions that were intended to improve on sort of the material and social conditions that affect health ended up getting tied to these World Bank programs essentially.
