By mid-1944, expenditures were around $100 million per month. In late 1944 and early 1945, Progress at Oak Ridge meant that the August 1st deadline actually started to look realistic. At first, they were worried that even August 1st might be too aggressive. And now all the different lines of research were starting to be fruitful.
