In one tiny chip, okay, it's a lot, and you put several chips in, you've got a terrific computer. But the guy, the file clerk, which is called the central processor, who has to look at this program counter and check and change it? And he's working very hard, so an obvious way to improve the thing is to get another file clerk. Why not have an army of file clerks? Turns out at first that it looked extremely difficult to do because there's all kinds of technical, difficult problems. It always turned out to be easier to make one file clerk work very hard than to make several working.
