There are other chemical intoxicants that are in some ways better than alcohol. Cannabis does not have the same physiological impact. Alcohol is super easy to dose and it has very predictable effects across individuals. So I just think through cultural evolutionary processes, we've zeroed in on alcohol because it's just the least bad option of the various options we could have.
