The Trust Mechanism for Debt Sustainability
I don't think we're in a crisis, however. As long as our nominal GDP growth is higher than the average interest we pay, the math of debt sustainability improves over time. Our nominal GDP growth year-to-year is about 7%. It's actually been in the double digits for much of the past two years. The market has to believe the money we're borrowing will be put to productive use.
