In the modern world, we seem to be beset by paradoxes. We set out to do one thing and we achieve exactly the opposite of it. This is an ancient idea that is prevalent in oriental philosophy and hinduism. It's present, actually, in mediaeval christianity. And i also discovered, more recently, the cabala, the body of mystical thought of judaasm. So these ideas have been crystallizing thoughts in my mind for a very long time.
