Introduction
Architects Kevin Carmody and Andy Quark founded their eponymous practice in 2006. Their work tends to be paired back and restrained, featuring monolithic forms with a minimal material palette. But it belies a kind of warmth and humanism that often registers on the surfaces of their projects. They were designing significant memorials, like the one to the victims of London's July 7th terrorist attacks,. That are meant to last in perpetuity. And so we began our conversation by exploring the relationships they see between their temporary and permanent works.
