His father sent him away at a young age, so he grew up in a series of boarding schools and jesuit academies. He was an insatiable reader as a kid, but he tended to enjoy sports more than going to class. Eventually, fidel goes for a law degree at the university of havana. Once a lawyer, he defends primarily workers, poor farmers, political prisoners,. At six three, he cuts that figure of a larger than life, you know, man of the people. His parents find him to be a scruffy ardewell who associates with too much riff raff and never pays his bills.
