Whete the key, thinks, is that foreigners were to be protected from too much reality. So they made sure that we only occasionally, sometimes by chance, sometimes by design, did we actually encounter that cthat culture of denunciation and criticismd a number of times. We could see the effects in practical terms, on the faces and in the eyes of our teachers.
