How Do We Pray?

This is a Jesus' question here. Why do we pray the way that we pray? Repeated or memorized prayers can be authentic. I actually, for a long time, and I still struggle with this, don't pray before I eat because all of my life growing up, it was just like such a thing that it was like, it just didn't mean anything to me.
