Water gate had this, like, very perverse effect on the way journalism was conducted. The best thing you can do to make your name as a journalist forever is if you bring down a politician. But that's a poisonous thing. You don't want to create a whole industry of ahabs out there chasing whales. And so it became, mythologizis like the greatest moment in American jounalistic history.
