Alexios may have just been pleased that he had negotiated his empire away from the brink of collapse. The ambitions of the crusaders allowed alexios to stabilize his vulnerable economy. He would consolidate what anitalian possessions he did have left following the establishment of the rum sultanat alexios. John the second's son ruled the empire as manuwill, and he would defeat the hungarians in battle, making them a vassal state. And this may represent a time of relative roman stability in the balkans - something not known before the invasions of the goths back in the fourth century.
