In freemasonry, there was an authentic democratization that took place at a time when society was extremely hierarchical. That is the great appeal for many people whose live have become inundated with informality to the point of a nothing being very important at all. When they come into masonry and they have to wear a suit, a tie, maybe even a toxito, they have to learn proper ways of standing and a ting and addressing. This says that what you're doing is important, pay attention. So in that way, it's very initiatic on a special inner level.
