The Women's Voice Song in the 70s and 80s

Somali culture is inherently Islamic, and by default that means that women singing were seen as haram or frowned upon. Radio stations did broadcast music by the most popular artists of the day, but there were virtually no private music labels. Hundreds of small cassette shops around the Horn of Africa would record the music from the radio and sell it back to the public as cassette. They'd even do custom compilations on requests, kind of like Spotify playlists for the 70s and 80s.
