Masking for Respiratory Viruses

In Japan, there's tremendous social pressure to wear masks whenever indoors. I've also been in Europe a couple of times in the last month where almost no one wore masks. For now, the US CDC has tried to simplify their recommendations based on the local incidence of disease. But my sense is that there has been pretty limited uptake of those recommendations.
