The Story of Ragnarok
The story of Ragnarok, at least in the poetic Edda, ends with a possible final note of hope. But nonetheless, the overall story is dark and fatalistic. In some, it is a tragic mythology. And one is forced to ask why. There are, of course, possible obvious geographic reasons. The need for good crops in summer to survive the winter. One could say that the description of the ice and fire realms reflect the nearness of the Arctic as well as possibly volcanoes.
