The Morality of Altruism in Religion
Christianity and religion generally is altruistic, says Peter Bergen. It's much more about sacrifice as an end in itself, he says. And then of course other people are just an excuse to give things up - I mean, they put the nine to yourself. But when you understand that that's what's really at the core of the idea, it gets a lot easier to see how this is coming out of religion.
