The region as a whole is rich in this stuff but unfortunately many countries around the region are struggling to get this stuff out of the ground. Algeria has been the third largest gas supplier to Europe and is expecting record revenue this year. Iraq burned off enough gas to make up five percent of Europe's annual gas consumption. There are further obstacles to actually getting it to consumers in Europe.
