Why Is Congress Considering Forgiving Student Loans?
Congress has not considered forgiving transferring student loans. Joe Biden, when he came in, wanted to do this and he got his lawyers to find some law that had the words forgiveness in it. So they settled for a 2003 Heroes Act which was passed shortly after 9-11. The Department of Education says there is no authority to cancel or forgive or waive student loans.
