The Trial of Madam X
In the play, Madam X is put on trial for murder but refuses to say her name. She's defended by none other than Ramon, her own son. In a very famous trial scene she gives this rousing speech about who this woman is and defends her. And in the end, she is found innocent of her crime; has a moment of salvation and redemption with her son and her husband. Uh, and, uh, but the strain has been too much and so in classic melodramatic fashion, she dies. That is how the play ends with her fruit, goodness and death.
