The Importance of Folklore in Edith Village

The ambiguity between folklore and magic, as you put it, is really one of the themes. One of the characters that I was initially most drawn to in the novel was Constance Fitzallen who comes to Edith Village to record local, rural traditions before they disappear. We are still creating folk beliefs and folklore today. It's something that happens in the absence of established fact, and often something that happens to control what we perceive as uncontrollable circumstances.
