A gene drive is a cunning way of increasing the number of copies of a gene in a population. It was dreamt up by researcher Austin Burnt at the beginning of the century. He imagined that if we attach to this homing endonuclease, as it's called, then you would very, very rapidly spread through the population. And so it's a very difficult ethical issue that we're only really like starting to grapple with.
