Pranam: Why were there so many rockets being developed in that era? Is it something just to do with the Cold War or is there more to the story? The Soviets had a set of ICBMs that they developed, they pioneered far earlier than the Americans. And this is why we have wide variety of missiles for international competition. It's also a combination of bureaucratic infighting and both theoretically and empirically that's validated.
