Is There a Consciousness Trap?
Cintra: It's still an unknown whether consciousness is the kind of thing that you can program a computer and it will have it or whether it depends on the stuff. We know that you're not going to get there simply by making AlphaGo faster and faster and fast and faster. But it might be possible to get there another way by copying the functional architecture of the human brain more closely. That's still a far off scenario and there's still a big unknown that we don't know whether such a thing would just be simulating consciousness, simulating or conscious intelligence in some way.
