It's Not Just In Your Head
The Freudian Unconscious
Lacan: The unconscious is outside of ourselves. In a period of radical homelessness where we've lost the dwelling space in some sense, the unconscious is out there. Lacan's wager was that delusions are pervasive, we're all delusion in some sense. And so we can see the way in which artificial intelligence can go on without us,. It can dream without any need of us being there or present. But there's always a moment where we can rediscover or reinvent the unconscious. This is the moment when we confront what Freud called the navel of the dream, the part of the dream that cannot be interpreted and so on.
