Enron was named Americans most innovative company for six years in a row. They could hide their debt using special purpose vehicles, now known as SPEs or special purpose entities. John Olson was one of the only analysts skeptical of the Enron story at this time. He refused to join the herd in touting a company whose business grew more opaque and incomprehensible.
