The Ploughman's Lunch

Plough, p l o u g h. It is of germanic origin and was spelt plouh for a very long time until about the eighteenth century. And then you have the ploughman. Of course, why do we change? Because p was much simpler than pg, i think. Again, it was part of this drive to create a sort of independent language.
