I think that the old dogma of all small bowel obstructions gets an NG tube needs to be white clean because they are really only indicated for active vomiting. So now we skip to GI bleeds and the often feared but rarely realized potential complication of knocking a clot loose. I have, on at least two occasions, one as early as my previous week, filled an entire suction canister bottle from what came out of somebody's stomach prior to RSI just because I was worried it was going to present itself while I was right in the middle of looking at their cords.
